Amy Beach (1867-1944), the composer who inspired our first concert series of the season, Life’s a Beach, from October 13-16!
Amy Beach was a groundbreaking woman composer of the first half of the 20th century. When she married a man 20 years older, he told her to quit her concert performances and stick to composition because being in the public eye was not appropriate for a married woman! She put her heart and soul into her compositions and Jane Coop, special guest pianist, will pour all her creative energies into her performances of the work. While just as passionate about music, Jane can hardly have had a more different experience. She has been performing since a very young age and her husband, who first heard her play at the CMC competition, has been her most ardent supporter, even starting a recording label to support her creative endeavours!
Join the Vetta String Quartet and Jane Coop, for an exciting program including Haydn’s Sunrise Quartet, Shostakovich’s earliest quartet and the Amy Beach Quartet!
